CVC word practice
Start with the basic CVC pattern.
CVC words are short words with a consonant-vowel-consonant pattern, such as map, sit, dog, and sun. They give beginning readers a manageable way to practice hearing each sound and blending the sounds into a whole word.
The Core activities use familiar routines such as matching, tracing and writing, and Sound It Out practice. Students can focus on the words instead of learning a new activity format on every page.
More ways to practice
Use CVC words for spelling, word work, and comprehension.
Once students are comfortable reading the pattern, the Extension activities give them different ways to use the same phonics skills. They can move into spelling, word ladders, word work, and comprehension while staying with CVC words and short vowels.
This makes the Complete Pack useful when you want more than one type of CVC worksheet. You can choose a page for a phonics lesson, small group, intervention, independent practice, tutoring, homeschool, or review.
